Alfred University receives state approval for new degree in Sports and Health Sciences

The New York State Department of Education has approved Alfred University’s new Bachelor of Science degree program in Sports and Health Sciences, with the first cohort of students enrolling in the program for the Fall 2024 semester. The program offers concentrations which will lead students to a variety of career opportunities in the health care field or provide them a path to graduate school.

Alfred University alumnus John Mauro ’01, ’06 PhD, delivered the Scholes Memorial Lecture on Thursday, discussing his journey from growing up in nearby Almond, NY, and attending Alfred University to becoming one of the preeminent researchers in the field of glass science.

A group of Alfred University students and their professors traveled recently to New York City, touring the streets and intersections of Harlem, where African American artists in the early 20th century sparked one of the great movements in U.S. art, literature, and music.

Doris Möncke, glass science professor, visits university in Brazil, offers short course, seminar

Doris Möncke, associate professor of glass science at Alfred University, spent two weeks in March at the Vitreous Materials Laboratory/Federal University of São Carlos in Brazil. She presented a short course and a seminar and engaged in discussions with students and faculty.
