Alfred Art Park to hold Grand Opening during MostArts

Coinciding with Alfred University’s 2023 MostArts Festival, the Alfred Art Park will hold its Grand Opening Monday, July 24 at 4 pm. The park has been growing since  2015, under the auspices of Professor Emeritus Glenn Zweygardt, at the corner of South Main Street and West University in the Village of Alfred. The July 24 ceremony will include a special dedication and talk by Zweygardt.

Each year, the Alfred Art Park has featured artwork by faculty and former students of Alfred University. This year, work from two former members of the Alfred University Sculpture Club will be on display: Grace Labatte’s sculpture Rise and Marysia Josephson’s Nebula.

Visitors may also see the work of Calvin Hubbard, an Alfred University alum who oversees a large-scale bronze monument company in Massachusetts. He regularly travels with his iron furnace to various venues in the Eastern United States. His sculpture Shoring #3 is currently on display.

Also the sculpture Isolation, by Mark Warwick, will be on display accompanying artwork by Dimitri Callian, whose Precipice was fabricated on the Zweygardt Sculpture premises. Not to be missed: the MostArt’s Festival’s iconic granite piano-shaped bench is on display, honoring MostArts founder Lisa Lantz.

The granite sculpture is one of two permanent benches made by Zweygardt specifically for the park.
