March 18, 4:30 p.m. Painting Public Talk: Arts Faculty Search Candidate

 BMH 106 Painting Candidate # 4: Feminism at the Intersection of Gender, Ethnicity, and Nationality

The candidate's artistic interest is concerned with social identity and the politics of representation. Their work focuses on resilience, strength, and survival in response to the circumstance of war, specifically related to resistance against gender-based violence. Through a dynamic and expressive approach to the figure utilizing active gesture drawing they exhibit rebellious action undertaken by Afghan women as a form of protest, contributing to a global feminist responsibility.

Arts Speaker Series: Emily Sara

Emily Sara (she/her) is a queer, disabled, neurodivergent, researcher, publisher, organizer, artist, designer and Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. She specializes in teaching Accessible Design and has an active studio practice as well. Using the language of advertising and animation, her work critiques the Medical Industrial Complex (MIC) and societal control over disabled bodies.

March 23, 1 to 7 p.m. Miller Computer Lab (room 221)

Theatrical Sound Design Workshop with Sean Doyle: A workshop discussing the nature and artistry of sound design for the the stage. Doyle is the Sound Designer for Little Dog Laughed. The workshop is a discussion on the nature and artistry of sound, how it relates to us, and how it enhances works on and off the stage. Learn the methods for creating and setting up a sound system as well as learning common challenges and their solutions. Gain an understanding of industry standard programs in order to design sound for a production. Sean Doyle is a Boston-based Sound and Lighting Designer, Sound Engineer, and Sonic Artist. His designs have been heard and seen in several LORT and smaller theatres across the country, and Off-Broadway at the Atlantic.

Open draw is free and open to the public. The Community is invited to attend. Models and drawing stands provided at no cost. Bring your own drawing supplies. Light instruction and feedback available. Open Draw does not take place during semester breaks or holidays.
